UEVF 2012 – 3rd National Energy Efficiency Forum and Fair, one of the major events which took place within the context of the Energy Efficiency Week, on 12-13 January 2012.
This year, the interest was quite high in Turkey’s first and only Energy Efficiency Forum and Fair, organized within the context of the 31st Energy Efficiency Week and with the coordination of the General Directorate of Renewable Energy under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The event was inaugurated with the participation of Taner Yıldız, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources; Nihat Ergün, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology; and Ömer Dinçer, Minister of National Education, and ended on the second day with the presentation of appreciation plaques to the members of the White Goods Manufacturers’ Association of Turkey for their support of energy efficiency by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister Taner Yıldız.
In his speech, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pointed to the fact that economizing is a national issue as well as a personal one, and they will achieve their targets together. Underlining that energy consumption increases with higher welfare levels, Prime Minister Erdoğan said; “Turkey is no longer a country with the wrong energy policies. These used to be a saying “Water flows by, and the Turk just looks at it”. It has now turned into “Water flows by, and the Turk makes something of it”. Additionally, Prime Minister Erdoğan stated that if the 15 million refrigerators lacking energy efficient technologies at our houses would be replaced with energy efficient ones, the energy savings would be equal to Ankara’s one year worth of electricity consumption.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız reminded in his speech that Turkey has been working for 10 years to prepare its national energy policy and expressed that awareness and energy consumption culture should be created in the public to increase the level of the preparations and to ensure their success. Minister Yıldız added that 40% of the energy produced in the world is used up in buildings and it is possible to make USD15 million dollars’ worth of savings in our country by implementing insulation in buildings.
TÜRKBESD Chairman of the Board Özcan Aydilek stated in his speech during the award ceremony that as Turkish White Goods Sector, they fully support Energy and Natural Resources Ministry’s “Efficient Cooperation for Energy Efficiency in White Goods” initiative. He said; “We believe that awareness should be created in consumers about energy efficiency. However, for the replacement of the inefficient goods at houses, our government should absolutely provide incentives for the consumer. To this end, as production companies, we are ready to work in cooperation with the relevant authorities of the state.”
At the plaque awarding ceremony held during the 3rd Energy Efficiency Forum, which saw the participation of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yıldız in addition to the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented appreciation plaques to Özcan Aydilek, Chairman of TÜRKBESD; Mustafa Koç, Board Chairman of Koç Holding, in the name of Arçelik brand; Norbert Klein, CEO of BSH Home Appliances; Ahmet Nazif Zorlu, Board Chairman of Zorlu Holding, in the name of Vestel brand; Andrea Ojetti, Indesit Turkey’s Country Director; and Engin Özsayın, Sales Director of Candy Group in appreciation of their support to energy efficiency.
